Baarda-lezing

Ter gelegenheid van het 125-jarig bestaan van de Nederlandse Commissie voor Geodesie op 24 februari 2004 is de tweejaarlijkse ‘Prof. Baarda-lezing’ ingesteld en werd een borstbeeld van hem onthuld. 
De eerste Prof. Baarda-lezing is in februari 2004 verzorgd door prof. Reiner Rummel tijdens het symposium ‘De aarde op maat’ ter gelegenheid van het 125-jarig bestaan. De tweejaarlijkse lezing werd sinds 2006 verzorgd tijdens het GIN-symposium. Sinds 2016 organiseert het NCG zelf ieder jaar een symposium waar onder meer promovendi hun onderzoeken kunnen presenteren. De Baardalezing, maar ook de Tienstra Onderzoeksprijs, is sindsdien een onderdeel van dit symposium.

Prof. dr. ir. Willem Baarda 

Prof. dr. ir. Willem Baarda (1917-2005) was van 1952 tot 1996 lid van de Nederlandse Commissie voor Geodesie (de voorloper van het huidige NCG) en vanaf 1996 erelid. Hij was van 1957 tot 1980 secretaris en van 1980 tot 1987 voorzitter van de Commissie.
