The NCG and the NCG committees regularly organise symposia and study days where knowledge and insights in the field of geodesy and geo-informatics are presented and discussed and where research questions are formulated. In the past, the lectures have often been published in one of the two NCG series.
On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Netherlands Geodetic Commission on February 24, 2004, the biennial Prof. Baarda lecture was held and a bust of him was unveiled. The biennial lecture has been given since 2006 during the GIN symposium. Since 2016, the NCG itself has organized a symposium every year. The Baarda lecture is part of this symposium.
In 1998, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the geodetic engineering course at TU Delft, the Netherlands Geodetic Commission established the Prof. J.M. Tienstra Research Prize. The aim of the prize is to promote and make visible research in the Netherlands in the field of geo-informatics and geodesy. This also concerns related socially oriented research, provided that it falls within the area covered by the then NCG. The prize has been awarded every two years since 2010.
Since 2015, the NCG has been responsible for awarding the Otto von Gruber Award. This prize is awarded every four years to the author of a meritorious article in the field of photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences. The first ceremony took place in 1964.
In 2017, the GIN/NCG thesis prize was established in collaboration with Geo-Information Netherlands (GIN). Training coordinators of geo-related courses can submit two theses per course annually via the GIN website. In 2023, a distinction between bachelor’s and master’s theses has been introduced for the first time to give bachelor’s students more opportunities to compete for the prize. The NCG provides the Bachelor’s prize, GIN the prize for the best Master’s thesis.
The NCG launched the NCG Talent Program in 2019 to stimulate the development of young talent in the field of Geo. Financial contributions can be made from this program to activities that promote the understanding of geodesy and geo-informatics and their social application.
