Peter Teunissen awarded the EGU Vening Meinesz Medal 2022

Peter J. G. Teunissen has been awarded the 2022 Vening Meinesz Medal by the European Geoscience Union (EGU) for pioneering and influential work ranging from fundamental geodetic theory to breakthrough innovations in Global Navigation Satellite System modelling and precise positioning. He is the first Dutchman to receive this medal.

This medal was established by the Geodesy Division in recognition of the scientific achievements of Vening Meinesz (1887-1966) and is awarded for distinguished research in geodesy.

“Peter Teunissen’s recognized contributions are vast and diverse, ranging from fundamental geodetic theory, such as his reliability theory on quality control, to geospatial infrastructures and precise positioning with Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)”, it says on the EGU website. It is also stated that “Teunissen’s breakthrough contributions, combined with his ability to turn his fundamental work into applied use and innovation, have significantly fueled international research. […] “He is clearly a visionary research leader and influential pioneer whose many exceptional and unparalleled contributions to geodetic science have shown profound and lasting impact.”
